Philip Shaibu Dumps PDP for APC, Calls Oshiomhole ‘My Father’

Philip Shaibu
Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This shift marks a significant realignment in Edo State's political landscape.

Shaibu's defection comes after a period of tension within the PDP, where he has been a key figure. His decision to join the APC was announced in a heartfelt statement, where he described former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, as a father figure.

Shaibu praised Oshiomhole's mentorship and influence on his political career, emphasizing their enduring relationship despite previous political differences.

"I have always regarded Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as my father in politics," Shaibu stated. "Our bond transcends party lines, and I am grateful for his guidance and support throughout my journey."

Shaibu's move to the APC is expected to have significant implications for the party dynamics in Edo State. Known for his grassroots support and strong political network, Shaibu's allegiance to the APC could bolster the party's position in the state, potentially influencing future elections and governance.

As Edo State's Deputy Governor, Shaibu has played a pivotal role in the administration, particularly in areas of youth empowerment and infrastructural development. His shift to the APC is seen by political analysts as a strategic realignment ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

This defection also highlights the fluid nature of Nigerian politics, where alliances and party loyalty often shift in response to changing political tides. Shaibu's move to the APC underscores the evolving dynamics within Edo State's political arena, setting the stage for future developments.
